Mrs. Cordelia Maurice Peterside – Permanent Secretary FMCP

Mrs. Cordelia Maurice Peterside (Nee Akiri) was educated in Nigeria. She went to St. Barths School, Degema-1962 and was later transferred to St. Peters Primary School-Ogbelte, Enugu in 1964 and St. Paul’s State School, Ahoada in 1967 where she had her Primary Education and later proceeded to Holy Rosary Secondary School, Port Harcourt for her Secondary School Education in 1971. She obtained National Certificate of Education (NCE) and Bachelor of Education (BED) from Rivers State College of Education, Rumuolumeni in 1980 and 1985 respectively and later bagged a Master of Education Degree (MED) from the University of Port Harcourt in 1989.

Her uniqueness and love for Education has patterned her to several possibilities as she became an author of several publications such as: Early Intervention and Improvement in Early Education. This is a publication of the Nigeria Association of Special Education Teachers and another – Ensuring inclusive Education among School age children in Nigeria which was presented at the 1st sub-regional summit on Education West and Central Africa. She is also the Assistant Editor of Rivers State Bureaucrat- A publication of the Rivers State civil Service. The Coordinator, Rivers State Civil Service Choir.

As an administrator and a professional teacher whose baseline is to assist in problem solving and solution provider among staff, students and indeed the oncoming generation could be out rightly seen as a catalyst for Transformation. Before she became Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Information and Communications between 2013 and February 2015, she was already a member of several committees in the state. These include: The Coordinator, Rivers State Parents Teachers Association (PTA) 2002, member of committee on verification of payment of salaries and allowances paid through banks-2002, member Local Government Election Tribunal 2004, Coordinator Critical Mass HIV/AIDS in Ministry of Education (2005-2007), participation in the UNFPA workshop on the preparation of the log frame matrix 2005, Counseling Association Nigeria, Rivers State, Director Pabod Breweries and member Governing Council, University of Science &Technology, PH, and also served as the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Commerce and Industry. She is currently serving as the Permanent Secretary Free Medical Care Programme.

As Permanent Secretary her baseline is to facilitate and encourage staff to recognize standards and hard work to success and not to link themselves into any kind of wrongful doing. She had earlier claimed that her objective even as Permanent Secretary is to assist to maintain and contribute meaningfully, and to lay down an enduring legacy even in the growth and development of the coming generation. To achieve this, she needs to work harder to attain a standard where she could be placed on a level that would facilitate and/or create an opportunity that will enable one to get such an exceptional leadership position. She will support greatly in the advancement and improvement of any organization particularly in the area of Job Satisfaction to her colleagues and indeed the generation to come.

She is enthusiastic, self-motivated, teachable result oriented and a good team member with a great determination to succeed. She is good interpersonal and leadership skills, an effective communicator who thrives in highly pressurized and challenging working environments.
She is tested and has a proven capacity to bare official challenges of our time, a result oriented team member who is married with three lovely children, and her hobbies are: Reading, Cooking, Gardening, Singing, etc.

Besides official responsibilities, she is into some philanthropic organizations such as Opubo Bibi Mu Ere Ogbo and Ladies Club of Opobo. She is the President since 2001 to 2014.
